Final Fight MD (Mega Drive)
A downloadable game
About Final Fight MD
This is a homebrew version of the Final Fight arcade to the SEGA Mega Drive made from scratch, without using any source code from the original.
As this is a working-in-progress project, please, keep in mind there are many bugs, including graphics corruption, lockups, and many other strange behaviors that can occur in the middle of gameplay.
This demo includes:
- Possibility to play with 2 players at the same time
- 3 characters to select
- 3 complete rounds with their respective bosses
- Survivor and Time Attack modes with the "Metro City Bridge" scenario
To play the demo: download the binary ROM file for use with an emulator of your choice, or play it on a flashcard. Anomalies may occur depending on the flashcard or emulator. The game ran correctly on the Blastem emulator and Everdrive X3 flashcard.

Mauro, Gostei tanto do seu projeto, q fiz a ARTE DAS CAPAS: Box3d etc... Como faço pra te enviar essas Capas?!
An outstanding achievement! This feels much snappier and more responsive than the Mega CD version. The animation on the MCD version was always a little off. Compare just pressing jump on the MCD version and this version and you'll see what I mean. Also, I liked playing as Guy in the arcade because I enjoyed the speed of his flurry; he punched almost as fast as you could press the attack button. On the MCD version his attacks feel sluggish but again, do a back-to-back comparison with this version and you'll agree, this version just feels better.
I love the MCD version - especially the soundtrack but here are some other improvements:
- Much better use of colour in this version. Everything's much more vibrant and less washed out.
- The katana and pipe attacks are animated properly. In the MCD version the weapon sprites don't move in time with the character's hands, so each attack looks weird and as though they're not actually holding the pipe/katana.
- My compliments to the devs for the cool 'checkerboard' effect in level 1 when the door in the background opens and the characters walk out into the daylight. In the MCD version the characters just pop into existence at the doorway; this effect makes it seem like the enemies are actually walking out.
I did get an address error while fighting Sodom (I have a screenshot if the devs need it for bug squashing) but honestly, I don't even care. This game is just so much fun.
Again, well done and I can't wait to see where this goes from here =)
Nice update !!
This is an an excellent achievement.
Excellent version to Mega Drive even it is still in development. I also added it to my new "Gameplay of New Mega Drive/Genesis Games from October 2023 to 2024" video along with all the other newly released Mega Drive/Genesis games.
How close is this to completion? And is there any chance it will run on irrcade? If so you will definitely have my money.
Oh FUCK yes!! Better than the SNES version BY FAR!!
sadly the insane difficulty broke the game and made it not worthy of playing,i would rrather use the arcade or mega cd version which are better.
you should lower the difficulty and add the alchemy process for hi scorers (won't explain that since most gamers know what alchemy means in final fight)
In the time it took you to type that you weren't going to explain what the alchemy is, you could have not been a dick and just explained what the alchemy is for those who don't know.
(For those who don't know: in the original arcade, pushing Up + Punch very quickly right after punching a barrel/trashcan/etc. will make it drop diamonds and gold bars instead of its regular contents)
Mega Drive / Genesis supports analog control, hope you can use that when you make your own original games!
How do you play with Maki and Captain Commando and gain access to the time travel themed intro? Those were the best features!
I've stopped development on this version for the moment to focus on the arcade campaign. After completing the game, I will turn my efforts to this.
What is the arcade campaign? May you please explain what you meant by those words? Also, when will the regular Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Final Fight be made, let alone also exist as a physical cartridge? Will it be somewhere around 2026 or so? Will you also make an SNES/NSFC port of the video game as well, including having a physical cartridge, and maybe improve Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3/Tough as well? If Doom (I/1993) is getting remade for the SNES/NSFC, then Final Fight deserves a remake for that video game console as well. I will be patient and not rush you, but I know that you have the talent to make the video games, so keep up the good work, thanks.
Fantastic! Thank you!
Thanks for this awesome demo. It plays really well. I especially love the bridge background used for survivor and time attack. I Look forward to more updates.
I covered this version on my YouTube channel 👇
